Why I'm Not a Competitive Necromancer failed?

This is a question that used to plague my mind at night. I'm not a Competitive Necromancer is by far the most complex and beautiful thing I have ever written. It had a lot of speed bumps, but it was nonetheless a beautiful novel. Hell, it's not a case that Casual Heroing is basically the same thing but re-written starting from another character.

But what this novel taught me is where we fucked up. Because yes, we really messed up. When I say 'we,' I refer to Francesca and myself. Francesca was my editor, my writing partner of 5 years - so important in my development that I always considered her more of a co-writer than anything else.

The thing is, I learned a lot from this novel. I learned how to avoid a bunch of mistakes that newbies make, but I also learned how difficult it is to bridge the distance between your enjoyment as a writer and how the readers enjoyed themselves.
